SM cagers stretch streak to 8 games with 6-3A wins

The St. Martinville Tigers stretched their basketball winning streak to eight games last week, rolling past District 6-3A opponents Erath and David Thibodeaux. 

Coach Ihmaru Jones' squad has now won 13 of its last 14 games, improving to 20-6 overall and 4-0 on league play.

The Tigers chalked up easy wins over district foes Erath (80-37) and David Thibodeaux (79-41) last week and were scheduled to complete the first round of 6-3A play last night (Tuesday) at Crowley.

Double figure scorers for The 'Ville against Erath included Brandon Singleton with 17, Harvey Broussard (14), Jayvyn Duncan (12) and Jevion Sam (10).

On Friday at home, the Tigers tangled with David Thibodeaux, a team considered to be SM's most serious challenger for the league championship, and roared to a 35-14 halftime lead.

The Bulldogs rallied a bit in the third stanza but SM still outscored their visitors 18-16 to lead 53-30 going into the final period. And the Tigers finished strong, putting up 26 points to David Thibodeaux's 11.

Junior Harvey Broussard had the hot hand in the win over the Bulldogs, sinking three treys on his way to a 28-point effort.

Other double figure contributors included Delian Mallery and Jevion Sam with 12 points apiece, and Tanner Harrison with 10.

In other basketball action last week, Breaux Bridge and Cecilia each suffered pair of District 6-4A losses.

The Tigers dropped games to Beau Chene (63-41) and Opelousas (54-40) while the Bulldogs fell to Opelousas by 90-59 and Livonia by 45-36.

The Bridge now owns a 10-11, 1-2 record while Cecilia is winless in 15 outings.
