Valerie Alexander Louis

New Iberia – A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2019, at St. Peter Catholic Church for Valerie Alexander Louis, 54, who passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2019.
Entombment followed in the Holy Family Cemetery.
Rev. William Blanda was the Celebrant.
A gathering of family and friends was held on Friday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary, led by Deacon Durk Viator, was prayed at 7 p.m. on Friday. Visitation continued on Saturday from 7:30 a,m. until 9:30 a.m.
A resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Louis was born on March 31, 1964, in St. Martinville, to the late Dennis and Myrtle Chambers. She was a teacher in Iberia Parish and St. Martin Parish sSchools, and was very involved her in children’s lives and the community, including ESA volleyball and the New Iberia Film Festival.
Mrs. Louis was also very active in St. Peter’s Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. An avid learner, she believed in learning as much as possible.
Survivors include her children, Elizabeth A. Louis of New Iberia, Mary Catherine Louis of New Iberia, David Paul Louis Jr. of New Iberia, and Bradley Louis of New Iberia; sisters, Sheriba Menard and husband Edward of St. Martinville, Resteray Alexander of St. Martinville, and Sybil Jordan and husband Clifton of Baton Rouge; brothers, Christopher Alexander of St. Martinville, and Danny Kately and wife Sydnie Mae of Lafayette; her godchild, Cherie Fontenette; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Louis Sr.; mother, Myrtle Chambers Alexander; and her father, Dennis Alexander.
Pallbearers included Dennis Menard, Chandler Chretien, Devanté Weston, Justin Chretien, Marcus Calligan II and Bradley Louis.
