Nolan ‘Boo’ Champagne Jr.

St. Martinville – A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church for Nolan “Boo” Champagne Jr., 69, who passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2021.

Visiting hours were observed at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday and continued on Saturday from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

A rosary was prayed by Fr. Michael Champagne at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Rev. Abelardo Gabriel, SVD, officiated at the Funeral Mass. Readers were Adele Caillouet and Harley Melancon. Gift bearers were Arleen Broussard and Nicole Smith.

Interment followed at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.

Boo began his professional career working for J.B. Talley Construction Company. After 19 years of service, Boo made a career move and was employed by the City of St. Martinville as the Public Works Superintendent. Boo enjoyed a 30-year career with the city and knew the utilities like the back of his hand.

Boo was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed spending his free time either hunting or fishing. Boo’s family, especially his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were the light of his life. He enjoyed spending time with them at the camp in the basin, teaching them how to be successful hunters and fisherman. 

Boo was a devout Catholic and attended Mass every weekend, as well as weekday morning Masses. Boo was also very involved in his grandchildren’s sporting events. He never missed a swim meet, football, volleyball, softball or baseball game. He also enjoyed having lunch, multiple times a week, with his close circle of friends.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Francine Laperouse Champagne; daughters, Wendy Fuselier (Craig) and Kristy Poche (Casey); sister, Rosalie Melancon (Nicky); brother, Dwane Champagne; grandchildren, Drew Huval Boudreaux (Tanner), Cole Fuselier and Abby Poche; great-grandchildren, Brynn Boudreaux, Briar Boudreaux and Bree Boudreaux; mother-in-law, Joy Rita Laperouse; brothers-in-law, Ray Owen and Francis “Joey” Laperouse Jr.; sisters-in-law, Melanie Capritto (Michael), Adele Caillouet and “Little Joy” Laperouse.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nolan Champagne Sr. and Etta Huval Champagne; sister, Marilyne Champagne Owen; and father-in-law, Francis Laperouse Sr.

Pallbearers were Craig Melancon, Brian Melancon, Ryan Owen, Cole Fuselier, Francis “Joey” Laperouse Jr. and Logan Caillouet.

Honorary pallbearers were Carrol Delahoussaye, Lucas Barras, Danny Buillard, Ward Breaux, Chester Bergeron and Peter Foti.

Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville was in charge of arrangements.
