Nita Theriot McNair

St. Martinville – A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, October 1, 2021, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church for Nita Theriot McNair, 71, who passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021.  

Fr. Bill Melancon officiated at the Funeral Mass, and interment followed at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville. 

Visiting hours were observed at Pellerin Funeral home in St. Martinville from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Friday.  A rosary was prayed at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. 

Nita was born and raised in St. Martinville. Throughout her career, she worked as a Bank Teller, Chemical Abuse Counselor, Probation Officer, Family Court Mediator and a Crisis Counselor. Later in life she had great pride in working diligently to attain her Master’s Degree in Counselor Education from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She had a loving heart and much compassion for those going through difficult times.   

Nita loved woodworking, particularly building birdhouses and doing home remodeling. She had a great sense of humor and loved traveling.  One of her favorite trips was traveling to 31 states and Canada on the back of a motorcycle with her husband Bill. Nita could often be found visiting with family and friends and frequently gave of herself to help others.

She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband, Bill McNair; son, Pat Durand (Julie); grandchild, Kandace Durand; sisters, Gayle Dugas (Huey), Linda Laperouse (Kenny), Evelyn Theriot and Connie Theriot (Ray England); and her sister-in-law, Loretta Theriot.  

She was preceded in death by her son, Brad Durand; parents, Alexandre Theriot Sr. and Evelyn Dugas Theriot; brother, Alexandre Theriot Jr.; and her niece, Elizabeth K. Laperouse.  

Pallbearers were Pat Durand Jr., Alexandre Theriot III, Kenny Laperouse, Darrel Landry, Bennett Theriot and Chad Laperouse. 

Memorial donations may be made in her name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Shriners Hospitals for Children, c/o Donor Relations, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607.
