Joseph Charles Simon

Coteau Holmes – A Mass of Christian Burial was conducted for Joseph Charles Simon, 87, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. Fr. Jose Padinjarepeedika officiated the services.
Interment followed at the church cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends took place at Evangeline Funeral Home in St. Martinville from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary being recited at 7 p.m. The funeral home reopened at 8 a.m. until service time.
A native of Gueydan and resident of Coteau Holmes, Mr. Simon passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at his residence surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Born on December 5, 1930, to the late Claude and Evia Hargrave Simon, Joseph was the oldest of four children. Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Armed Forces and was honorably discharged. He was also a 30 year member of the local 406 Union for Operators and Engineers.
In March of 1957, Joseph married the love of his life, Barbara “Bobbie” Mobley, and the two have been together for 60 years. Family was very important to Joseph. He cherished every moment spent in their company. Joseph especially enjoyed entertaining family and friends and would often cook for everyone. He also loved being outside and tending to his vegetable garden. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Joseph will be truly and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara “Bobbie” M. Simon; children, Charles Simon and wife Joan of Coteau Holmes, Darlene Bourque and husband Jimmy Sr. of Coteau Holmes, and Aaron Simon and wife Kim of Broussard; brother, Stanford Simon and wife Priscilla of Gonzales; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and beloved dog, Kimmy.
He is preceded in death by his son, Allen Simon; parents, Claude and Evia Hargrave Simon; brother, Warren Simon; and sister, Louise Luquette.
Pallbearers were Tyler Simon, Trevor Devillier, Leland Blanchard, Joey Bourque, Chris Derouen and Zack Simon.
Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Bourque Sr., Jim Smith, Merlin “T-Merl” Bourque, Joshua Bourque and Mark Allen.
