St. Martinville – A home-going celebration of life for Ms. Darlene Drake, 57, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at Union Baptist Church (902 St. Martin Street) with Rev. Darren A. Benoit officiating. 

Interment will follow in Union Baptist Church Cemetery in St. Martinville, La. 

Visitation hours will be observed at Union Baptist Church on Saturday, October 15, 2022, beginning at 7 a.m. until the time of the service. 

Masks are required to attend the service. 

A resident of St. Martinville, La., she transitioned at 12:54 p.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, La.    

Darlene Drake was the ninth child born to the union of Lizzie Voorhies Drake and Willis Drake Sr. on November 15, 1964, in Lafayette, Louisiana. At an early age, she professed her faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was baptized at Union Baptist Church by Reverend Harrison McKinley Jones. 

Darlene was a kind person with a good heart who loved to cook and sing.  

She leaves to cherish her fond memories one sister, Delores Drake Menard of St. Martinville, La.; two brothers; Kenneth Drake and Kawaski Drake, both of St. Martinville, La.; three godchildren; Lakeisha Bourda (Dominic), Willis Thibodeaux and Allen Roberts; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who know that earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal. 

She joins in glory, her mother, Lizzie Voorhies Drake; her father, Willis Drake Sr.; three brothers, Willis Drake Jr., Nelson Drake Sr. and Allen Drake; three sisters, Mary Ann Drake, Evelyn Rose Drake and Rose Marie Roberts; maternal grandparents, Allen Voorhies Sr. and Alberta Roberts Voorhies; paternal grandparents, Lawrence Drake Sr. and Lillian Gardner.

Active pallbearers are Makaylon Roberts, Krystian Robertson, Alvey Henry, Brandon Perrio, Nelson Drake Jr. and Kawaski Drake.

Honorary pallbearers are Eddie James Menard, Roosevelt Voorhies Jr., Kenneth Drake, Dominic Bourda, James Landry, LJ Benoit, Michael Garret, Oliver Garrette Sr., Patrick Berard Sr., Dennis Alexander, Willis Thibodeaux, Allen Garrette, Allen Roberts and Allen Jean-Batiste.
