Masking required for most parish buildings

Parish President Chester Cedars has re-imposed a mask mandate for most parish owned public facilities.
In a statement issued last week, Cedars cited the surge in COVID-19 cases due to the Omicron variant as his primary concern in calling for mandatory masking in parish owned and operated facilities while emphasizing it does not apply to any other public place under the ownership or operation of other judicial/public entities.

81% of parish taxes collected by Dec. 31

Just over 81 percent of the property taxes due to local entities had been collected as of Dec. 31, according to the St. Martin Sheriff’s Office.
Darren Doré, CFO for the Sheriff’s Office, reports that $34,303,724 had been received by the Dec. 31 deadline, out of $42,097,286 billed.
Acting as the parish tax collector, the Sheriff’s Office mailed out 33,071 notices to property owners and all but 6,251 had responded by Dec. 31.

Redistrict maps omits recently added areas

St. Martinville – The reapportionment plan adopted by the St. Martinville City Council last month does not include two areas of the city which were incorporated since the 2010 Census.
The areas include the Sieber Road neighborhood on the west side of town and the Conde Road/Trosclair Road section on the north side.
The two areas were annexed into the city during 2014 and 2015.
The Conde Road addition took in the Dollar General Store on North Main Street along with the new SLCC campus.

Prevention and assistance tips as health care fraud grows nationwide

When Jimmy Davis presented his Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana card at a health care facility ahead of a medical procedure, he was stunned at the response. Unbeknownst to him, he no longer had Blue Cross coverage.

With a bit of research, Davis, a Blue Cross Medicare plan member, learned that his identity had been stolen. He is not alone. Approximately 2.5 million senior citizens in the United States are victims of such crimes each year, said Mike Bertaut, a health care economist with Blue Cross.
