School workers will see salary increases

Parish teachers and most other public school employees will see an increase in their August checks following school board action on a new salary schedule last week.
The board approved the new schedule that incorporates increases authorized during the recent session of the Louisiana legislature.
The state-funded hikes amount to $1,500 per year for all professional employees and $750 per year for paraprofessionals.
Central staff personnel, whose employment year runs from July 1 to the following June 30, will see an increase in their July checks.
The pay schedule for most school workers runs from August through July of the following year.
Under the new schedule, a first year parish teacher with a bachelor’s degree will earn an annual salary of $45,305.
The annual salary for a teacher with a bachelor’s degree and 20 years experience will increase to $53,305. The same teacher with a master’s degree and 20 years would be paid $54,105.

Plus Supplements
Parish professionals are also scheduled to receive supplemental pay of $2,000 during the 2022-23 fiscal year – $1,000 in November and another $1,000 in May 2023 from sales tax collections.
Paraprofessional employees will receive the $750 annual increase along with supplemental pay of $1,430 – $715 in November and $750 next May.
