Head-on crash claims life of St. Martinville man

Shortly before 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 31, Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a two-vehicle crash on Darnell Road near La Belle Boulevard in Iberia Parish. The crash claimed the life of 42-yearold Curray Williams of St. Martinville.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by 69-year-old Jean Breaux (female), was traveling south on Darnell Road. At the same time, a 2008 Nissan Altima, driven by Williams, was traveling north. Breaux's Equinox crossed the center line and struck the Altima head-on in the northbound lane.

Troopers determined Williams was not restrained at the time of the crash. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition where he ul-

timately succumbed to his injuries.

Impairment on the part of both drivers is unknown at this time and charges are pending. This crash remains under investigation.

State Troopers remind motorists that, while not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired and always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained can often mean the difference between life and death.

Troop I has investigated three fatal crashes resulting in four deaths since the beginning of 2022.
